The Ultimate Guide to UK Bedding Sizes

Getting the correct size bedding for your bed isn't always the simplest thing to do. With so many different sizes and variations, it can sometimes be a real challenge to find the perfect size. It's so important to get it right if you want to get the best night's sleep possible.

This simple guide will make sure you know exactly what you need for your bed.

What are the most common bed sizes?

In the UK we have four common bed sizes. These are Single, Double, King and Super King. Less popular are Emperor size beds, but we've included this in our guide to cover all bases.

Single beds: the standard single bed measures 90 x 190cm in the UK. Perfect for smaller rooms where space is limited. Single beds are the most popular for children and bunk beds.

Double beds: the double bed is the most common bed size in the UK. The standard double bed is 135 x 190cm. Great for two people where space is a factor.

King beds: the king size bed measures 150 x 200cm. Offering a little bit more room than a double, the king size bed is also longer making it a great choice for taller people. King size bed sheets are our most popular sellers.

Super king beds: the super king size bed is 180 x 200cm. Ideal for those who love their own space in bed at night.

Emperor beds: the standard emperor bed is 200 x 200cm in the UK. Wider than a super king, this bed is ideal for those who really love their own space at night!

How do I know what size my mattress is?

The easiest way to find out what size bed sheets you need is to simply measure your mattress. The vast majority of mattresses will be one of the five sizes listed above. Some mattresses will have the size shown on their care label, so it's worth checking their first.

What are the UK bed sheet sizes?

Most people will opt for a fitted sheet to go over their mattress. Fitted sheets are a perfect choice here as they don't come loose and bunch up.

Pay attention to the depth of fitted sheets when buying. If you have a deep mattress, pair it with a deep fitted sheet for a better fit.

What are the UK duvet cover sizes?

Not everyone has the same size duvet cover as their mattress. Often people choose to go for a King duvet for their double as they like to have extra overlap on the sides of the bed.

If you're not sure of the size of your duvet you can either measure it or check the care label. Compare your measurements to the table below to find out what size duvet you have.
